Students from the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) were given a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of the Sandals Barbados Red Lane Spa, winner of the World Spa Award for Barbados’ best resort spa in 2019 and 2021.
The massage therapy students, who are studying for their diplomas, were guided through the spa by former SJPI student Shana Inniss-Williams, now a spa therapist at Sandals.
“They were very impressed by what they saw and had so many questions. I enjoyed the experience and hopefully inspired some of them to come back and work with us,” said Inniss-Williams.
One of the students, Marissa Haynes, said: “The Sandals spa was probably one of the best we have seen, and the staff were so friendly to us. I really enjoyed learning about all of the services offered and hearing the experiences from some of the spa therapists, especially what courses they took and schools they attended to develop their skills. I was also impressed by the overall presentation of the spa – we could feel the relaxed atmosphere while on tour.”
Surinder Kahlon, general manager of Sandals Barbados, praised the students for their interest and choice of career. He encouraged them to persevere and expressed hope that some might work for Sandals in the future. (PR)
