Students from the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) Garment Technology Programme Unveil Spectacular Collections at “Majestic Illusions”
The SJPI auditorium was filled with enchantment and creativity as the students of the Garment Technology faculty at SJPI, under the expert guidance of Instructor and designer Krystal Byer, captivated audiences with a spectacular fashion show entitled ‘Majestic Illusions’. This event marked the culmination of their two-year journey at the institution.
The event, held last Thursday, was a testament to the students’ passion and dedication to the art of garment technology. The audience was welcomed by Ms. Winifred Banfield, one of the instructors of the Human Ecology Division, who highlighted the remarkable talents and hard work of the students.
The show served as a platform for the students to express their individual styles while keeping up with fashion trends. Each garment presented at the show told a story of vision and dedication, reflecting the unique perspectives and creative spirits of the talented students.
Rasheeda Lewis, a budding costume designer who hopes to work with Crop-Over and stage costumes, presented the “Ellavate” collection. She described seeing her designs on the runway as exhilarating.
“It was a proud moment for me and my fellow students. The preparation was challenging, and I encountered difficulties leading up to the show and on the day of the show. I managed to resolve most of them, and for those I couldn’t fix, I went ahead with and hoped for the best.”
The show featured a diverse range of collections, each a unique expression of the designer’s style and creativity. These included the ‘Girls’ Trip’ Collection by Latricia Sealy, the ‘Date Night’ Collection by Jade Cumberbatch, the ‘Blue Waves’ Collection by Ciara Williams, the ‘Little Black Dress’ Collection by Joycelyn Parris, the ‘Knotted by Dusk’ Collection by Shanice Husbands, the ‘Denim Dreams’ Collection by Zaria Bowen, and the ‘Ellavate’ Collection by Rasheeda Lewis. The final collection, ‘Majestic Illusion,’ was a stunning amalgamation of signature pieces from each designer, showcasing their unique talents and creativity.
Instructor and designer Krystal Byer, reflecting on the students’ work, hailed the show as a testament to their hard work, dedication, and passion for fashion. She praised the students for their stunning designs, innovative concepts, and their ability to push boundaries and redefine what is possible in the world of fashion.
