SJPI Mural Unveiled

50th ANNIVERSARY MURAL UNVEILED AT SJPI

On the 5th February 20202, the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) unveiled a mural to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Institution. The mural entitled “Generations”, was designed, and painted by artist and entrepreneur Kevon “Von” Hal and co-sponsored by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

In attendance at the unveiling was the Honourable Santia Bradshaw, Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training (METVT), Mrs. Yvette Lemonias-Seale, Vice President, Corporate Services and Bank Secretary at the CDB and specially invited guests from the METVT, public and corporate entities, past and present staff and alumni and well-wishers. Principal, Mr., Ian Drakes welcomed the guests while Mr. Shelton Perkins, Chairman of the SJPI Board of Management chaired the evenings proceedings.

Highly inspired by modern Pop Art culture, this mural depicts the vision and mission of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology. At first glance, what may appear to be shapes and colours, will eventually be revealed as images based on the buzzwords Creativity, Innovation, Global, Digital age, Technology, Foundations, Technical Skills, Craftsmen, Opportunity and disciplines within each Division of the Institution. These images playfully and cleverly entice the viewer to keep looking for the art within the art. The mural takes on a style and approach that will make it timeless.
