George Collymore

Micro Electronics

Class of 1992

In pursuit of a career in the field of electrical engineering, Mr. Collymore applied for the Micro Electronics program at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic in 1989.  Besides his certification, Mr. Collymore acknowledges that there were two momentous life lessons he garnered at the SJPP which remain paramount; “the need to think” and “the need to have confidence in one’s skills and abilities.” Upon graduation, Mr. Collymore was hired as a computer technician at Digital Information Systems and within a year he was nominated for a number of training opportunities overseas. By 1998, Mr. Collymore was offered the opportunity to redevelop and teach Network Cabling at the SJPP; he continued as a part time instructor for a number of years. In 2000, Mr. Collymore moved on to Cable & Wireless BARTEL as the Supervisor of Computer Networks and a few years later took over responsibility for the regional wide area network (WAN). In 2010 Mr. Collymore launched his own company, NX Technologies Ltd, which specializes in business network infrastructures, communications, security, and IT systems for both local and regional entities.  Of note, NX Technologies Ltd copped the Barbados Small Business Association’s “ICT Sectoral Group Award” for 2016.
