Motor Vehicle Engineering Diploma

Class of 2016

At the tender age of seven, Akeil, instead of playing with toy cars, was working on real cars.

By the age of fourteen, he was helping his grandfather who was a mechanic.

His love for cars propelled him into the Motor Vehicle Engineering programme at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic.

There he was encouraged by his instructors to participate in the WorldSkills Barbados competition 2016.  Akeil won gold and earned the highest overall score in all categories of the competition.  This automatically qualified him to represent Barbados at WorldSkills 2017, a global “Skills Olympics” in Abu Dhabi.

Akeil at twenty-two years is currently a Trainee Vehicle Inspector with the Barbados Transport Board. The training he received at SJPP and his experience in WorldSkills Barbados are an asset to him in his current position and a foundation for his future endeavours.  Akeil is grateful to his Instructors at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic; he will be going to WorldSkills Abu Dhabi to do his best to make Barbados, his family, friends, Instructors, the TVET Council and himself proud.
