Pinelands Creative Workshop and SJPI Unveil Revolutionary Education Access Initiative

Pineland Creative Workshop and Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) have announced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing access to education.

The event was attended by the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources, and Parliamentary Representative for St. Michael South East, the Honourable Santia Bradshaw, and the Honourable Sandra Husbands, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training.

It marked a significant milestone in the Facilitating Inclusive Development in Communities Programme by expanding access to technical vocational education. The initiative has the potential to profoundly impact the targeted communities.

Ian Drakes, the Principal of SJPI, emphasized the institution’s commitment to extending technical vocational education beyond its campus and into the community. He highlighted the support received from all parties involved and encouraged public engagement with the program, underscoring the value of the specialized vocational training provided by the institute. Mr. Drakes urged the Barbadian public to actively participate in the program, stating, “We are taking our premier instructors to guide this process. Students will receive recognition and a quality SJPI certificate upon completion of the program.”

Sophia Greaves, the CEO of Pineland Creative Workshop, highlighted the program’s role in promoting inclusive development and addressing educational exclusion. She described it as a proactive effort to bridge the gap and expand educational opportunities for individuals facing various barriers. The initiative, supported by the Maria Holder Memorial Trust, aims to proactively address exclusion and promote inclusion through a multidimensional approach to resilience and adaptability. By bringing technical vocational training into the community, the program represents a collaborative and innovative approach to empowering communities through targeted skills development.
